Frequently asked questions

Do walks count, or only runs?

Both count. Walks earn XP just like runs do — recovery days, commutes and dog walks all feed your ostrich. Runs generally earn more per kilometre because pace factors into the reward, but you never have to run hard to keep progressing.

How is XP calculated?

Each completed activity shows its own breakdown before you claim it: a base amount from distance, a pace multiplier, and a weekly streak multiplier that grows the more consistently you're active. Nothing is hidden — you can see exactly where every point came from in the Runs tab.

Why does the app need location permission — and "all the time"?

GPS is how the app measures your route, distance, pace and elevation. Background (or "allow all the time") location lets tracking continue when your screen is off or you switch apps mid-activity — without it, your session will stop recording as soon as you put your phone away. We only use location while you have an activity running.

Why does it ask for Health Connect / Apple Health access?

So we can read runs and walks from other apps and use them in the game to level up your ostrich. The app can also read your heart rate to include it in your app runs, and write finished sessions back so they show up alongside the rest of your health data.

It's optional if you record everything in Apex Runner — you'd only lose heart-rate data and health-platform syncing. But if you track your runs in another app or on a watch, health access is the route those runs travel, so without it they can't reach the game. Health data is never used for advertising.

My run didn't record properly, or the distance looks wrong.

Nearly always a battery-optimisation issue on Android: the system kills background apps to save power. Go to Settings → Apps → Apex Runner → Battery and set it to Unrestricted. Also make sure location is set to "Allow all the time" and high accuracy is on. GPS also drifts under heavy tree cover, between tall buildings and in tunnels. If it keeps happening, email us with the date of the run and we'll look at it.

What does Premium actually give me?

It removes ads. That's the whole thing. Premium doesn't unlock features, plans, classes, cosmetics or progression, and it gives no competitive advantage — free players have access to everything in the app. If the ads don't bother you, there's no reason to subscribe.

Can I use my own running app or watch?

Yes. Grant health access and Apex Runner will pick up runs and walks recorded elsewhere, then convert them to XP like its own sessions. You don't have to switch apps to play the game. Runs recorded in Apex Runner give you the extras — live GPS map, voice coach, guided-run steps — but imported runs count for XP just the same.

Which languages is the app available in?

English and Spanish, both fully localised — the interface, the training plans and the voice coach.

How do I cancel Premium?

Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us. On Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. On iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep Premium until the end of the period you've already paid for. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their own policies — we can't issue them ourselves. Request one through your store's purchase history. If you're in the EU, your statutory consumer rights still apply. Email us if a purchase didn't unlock correctly and we'll fix the entitlement on our side.

I lost my progress / I was playing as a guest.

Guest accounts live only on that device and can't be recovered if the app is uninstalled or the device is reset. Link your account to Google or an email sign-in from the settings screen to keep your progress safe and carry it across devices. If you've lost progress on a linked account, email us — we can usually recover it.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email support@apexrunner.app from the address linked to your account, with the subject "Account deletion request". We'll delete or anonymise your personal data, including your activity history and gameplay progress, except where we're legally required to keep records (for example purchase records for tax purposes). Deletion is permanent and can't be undone. Full detail is in section 7 of our Privacy Policy.

Someone is cheating on the leaderboard. What do I do?

Report them: email us with their display name and, if you have it, a screenshot of the leaderboard or battle. We run automated anti-cheat checks for impossible paces, spoofed GPS and manipulated results, and we reset progress or ban accounts that are gaming the system.

Do I need an internet connection to run?

No. Activity tracking works fully offline — GPS doesn't need data. Your session syncs, and its XP becomes claimable, once you're back online. Battles, groups and leaderboards do need a connection.

How do I join the beta?

Email support@apexrunner.app and tell us whether you're on Android or iPhone. We'll send you an invite and let you know when we launch publicly.

Safety first. Apex Runner is a game, but the roads aren't. Keep your eyes up, watch for traffic, and don't chase a pace target into something solid.
