This Privacy Policy explains how Apex Runner ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects your information when you use our mobile application and website (the "App"). Apex Runner is a running and walking app combined with a fitness game: it tracks your activities and includes online gameplay features.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described here. Questions? Email support@apexrunner.app.
1. Who we are
Apex Runner is published by David Gordo, an independent developer. For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@apexrunner.app.
2. Information we collect
Account & identity
You can sign in with Google, an email sign-in link, or play as a guest (anonymous account). Depending on the method, we process: your email address, your Google account identifier and basic profile (name and photo, if provided by Google), and a unique account ID we assign. Guest accounts have a random ID and no email address.
Location & route data
With your permission, the App uses your device's precise location (GPS) while you record a run or a walk — including in the background, so tracking continues when the screen is off. We collect your route (coordinates and timestamps), distance, pace and elevation. This is core to the App's activity-tracking features. You can deny or revoke location access in your device settings, but activity tracking will not work without it.
Health & fitness data
With your permission, the App reads and writes fitness data through your device's health platform (Health Connect on Android; Apple Health on iOS where applicable), including heart rate, distance, active and total calories burned, exercise sessions, exercise routes, and steps. We read this data to display and analyse your runs and walks, and we write completed sessions back so they appear in your health platform.
Health data is used only to provide the App's fitness features. We never use health data for advertising, and we never sell it.
Gameplay & social data
Apex Runner includes online gameplay: player-versus-player battles, groups and teams, leaderboards, and cosmetic and equipment progression. We store your in-game profile, progress, inventory, battle history and results, group membership, and related gameplay events. Some of this — such as your display name, leaderboard standing and battle records — is visible to other players by design.
Purchases
If you buy a subscription (Premium), the purchase is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never receive your card details or full payment information. The resulting purchase token or receipt, together with your account ID and a device identifier, is shared with RevenueCat, our subscription management provider, which verifies it with the store and reports the result to our server so we can confirm and record your entitlement and its expiry date.
Advertising data
The App shows rewarded ads through Google AdMob. To serve ads, AdMob may collect and process device and usage identifiers (including your device advertising ID), IP address, and general ad-interaction data. In regions where it is required (such as the EEA and UK), we present Google's consent form so you can choose whether personalised ads are used. See Advertising & your choices below.
Device & diagnostic data
We may collect basic technical information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, and crash and diagnostic logs — to operate the App, keep it secure, and fix problems.
3. How we use your information
- Provide activity tracking for runs and walks, training plans, guided runs and fitness analysis.
- Convert your completed activities into in-game experience and progression.
- Run online gameplay features (battles, groups, leaderboards, progression).
- Create and secure your account, and prevent cheating, fraud and abuse.
- Process and verify subscription purchases and manage entitlements.
- Serve ads and, where you consent, personalise them.
- Diagnose issues, improve the App, and provide support.
4. Service providers we share data with
We use trusted third parties to run the App. They process data on our behalf, or as independent controllers under their own policies:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions) — account, gameplay, activity summaries and entitlement data. Firebase privacy information
- Google AdMob — advertising. How Google uses data from partner sites
- Google Play and the Apple App Store — purchase processing.
- RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation (purchase history, account ID, device identifier). RevenueCat privacy policy
- Your health platform (Health Connect or Apple Health) — reading and writing fitness data, at your direction.
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
5. Advertising & your choices
The App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain consent for ads where required. You can reset or change your ad consent at any time from the App's settings, and you can limit ad personalisation in your device settings:
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
You may also opt out of interest-based ads via youradchoices.com or youradchoices.ca.
6. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the App. Activity and gameplay data is retained so that your history and progress persist. When you delete your account (see below), we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must retain it for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons. Purchase records may be retained as required for tax and accounting purposes.
7. Your rights & deleting your account
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, or to request deletion of your account and its associated data, contact support@apexrunner.app. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Note that fitness data stored in your own health platform is controlled by you there, and is governed by that platform's own settings.
8. Children's privacy
Apex Runner is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our providers (including Google and Apple) may process and store data on servers located in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including access controls and server-side security rules, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the App. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
